flora of Table Mountain National Park, Cape Town

There are six floral kingdoms in the world, South Africa is unique in having an entire floral kingdom within its borders. The Cape Floral Kingdom (a world heritage site) - of which the park forms an extremely significant part - has the highest concentration of plant diversity in the world. The park has more than 2,285 species of plants (the entire British Isles has only 1,492 species).  In the park, the flora has adapted to live in its poor soil, resulting in about 90 species endemic to the park.
