The City of Cape Town is planning on locating its pilot desalination plant at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. The pilot plant will turn some 500 kilolitres of seawater into drinkable water on a daily basis.
The site will expose the public to desalination facilities and could be used for educational and awareness purposes.
The plan is to have the pilot plant up and running in 2006.
A large-scale desalination plant is planned to be built around 2016.
